other striking arts like Karate, Kung Fu, Tae Kwon Do etc. Because of the vast expansion of Mixed Martial Arts and K1 Kickboxing, Muay Thai was able to export its influence internationally. Even other martial arts have adopted some of their techniques to remain competitive.
In the U.S. the term “Muay Thai” has evolved into a general term encompassing all striking sports that incorporate punching, knees and roundhouse kicks to the outer thighs. At Arena Combat Sports, we use the term MMA Striking to disambiguate traditional Thai Boxing from the modernized style we teach.
The dynamic nature of elite striking in Mixed Martial Arts began to evolve past the scope of traditional Muay Thai. We incorporate a more modernized approach to our base. Western Boxing for example emphasizes often underused subtleties. It teaches the fighter proper ring generalship, and defense. It allows the fighter to remain calm and effective during a chaotic flurry of punches to the bosy and head.
